PhD admission exam schedule

Deadline for admission applications: July 7, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. (Italian time)

Written examination: July 20, 2020, 9:00 am. The examination will take place through internet via the UNIMORE Dolly platform (e-proctoring).

Interview: July 23, 2020, 9:00 am. The interview will take place through internet via Google Meet platform and may continue on July 24 if necessary.

 

Educational activity for Neuroscience PhD students

Training course: Scientific research and management of bibliographic citations in scientific work

The course will be in the first two weeks of October 2020 and will be held at distance by alternating lessons in streaming and video tutorial.


Course program:

1) Documents, research strategies, accessibility of online resources
2) Search engines and evaluation of online information sources
3) Bibliographic search in databases:
• before research: terminology analysis in the construction of research strategies
• how a database is organized - PubMed
• SciFinder
• Scopus
• M(ScienceDirect
4) Search for paper books and e-books: BiblioMO and the main UniMORE portals for searching Ebooks
5) Search for electronic periodicals: TrovaRivista
6) Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan services

The management of bibliographic citations in scientific work
1) Bibliographic citations in scientific literature: the main scientific citations (Harvard and Vancouver)
2) Bibliographic software: what they are, what they are used for, how and when they are used
3) The open source software Zotero. Exercises: installation of the software on your PC, complete management of a bibliography in Zotero as a function of a scientific article
4) The free Mendeley software. Basic functionality and comparison with Zotero
5) Research publication and evaluation strategies: how to use bibliometric guidelines to orientate oneself in the scientific publications market (Impact Factor, H-Index etc.)
6) IRIS (Politics, what it is, why it was born, ANVUR, how it works, etc.)
7) Alternative ways of publishing: OA (what it is, why it developed).
8) The two ways to publish OA: green road and golden road
9) Is it possible to publish without losing your rights? (The Sherpa database for the editorial policies of individual publishers)
10) Morethesis

Each lesson will include a theoretical and a practical part with exercises to complete a "home".
